Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in strength within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to begin their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear out of place, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the party knows exactly where to head next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.
The antagonist then settled his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the city, with Cyd pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each character has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the region and warns that it is a hostile location.
- The warrior and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to execute the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- But, their status as key figures in the influential clan could assist the party access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:
- Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the family.
This leaves them few options but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.
Future Episodes
Based on the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Questers and Strategists groups.
Fans can look forward to finding out which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
